- It sounds similar to an internal modem that I bought (and returned) made
- by ATI, based on AT&T chips. It had no UART or ROM - it used the computer's
- CPU and RAM to perform processing functions. That's why it was dependent on
- WINDOWS - it used windows software to perform the functions that are normally
- performed by the modem itself.

- It worked well, as long as the CPU wasn't too busy with other tasks, but
- the software must have been buggy or something, because it caused GPF's like
- crazy.

- A properly implemented modem of this type might work OK, but $99 seems
- like a high price, when you can get a new Sportster external for $165
- (Computer Shopper-January).
